Arizona’s 2025 recruiting class began with a trio of offensive pickups, including two quarterbacks to satisfy that need. Since then it’s been about landing key pieces at all the other positions.
On Monday, defensive line was checked off with the commitment of 3-star in-state prospect Kaleb Jones.
Jones, who plays for Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, fits the mold of what Defensive Coordinator Duane Akina and DL coach Joe Seumalo are looking for: an attacking, down-hill type of lineman. At 6-foot-1 and around 300 pounds, Jones has a low center-of-gravity that allows him to get leverage against taller opponents and strong hands and arms to deliver a big punch on impact and break blocks quickly.
During his junior season last year, Jones found major success in his first year of extended playing time. In 11 games, he racked up 45 tackles, 18.5 for a loss, 7.5 sacks, 4 QB hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. In his previous 2 seasons, he combined for 9 tackles with 1 for a loss in 8 games.
On the recruiting front, Jones has reported seven offers. He chose Arizona over other schools like Oregon, Arizona State, Oregon State, San Diego State, Iowa State and Nevada.
Jones is ranked as a 3-star in both 247’s internal rankings and the Composite rankings. Internally, 247 has him as a the No. 169 defensive lineman and the 22nd-best player in Arizona. In the Composite rankings, Jones comes in as the No. 1,296 player nationally, the No. 129 defensive lineman and the 15th-best player in Arizona.
