You’re familiar with Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when retailers offer deep discounts across a variety of products. But there’s another Black Friday on the calendar, too, known as “Black Friday in July” — and it’s already begun!
In response to Amazon Prime Day on July 16 and 17, top retailers like Wayfair, Ulta, Target and Walmart (plus many more) throw midyear sales that reach Black Friday levels of awesomeness — hence why people have come to refer to this as Black Friday in July, Christmas in July or Cyber Monday in July. While many of these sales get thrown right on top of Prime Day, some start earlier and/or run later.
Here are all the sales you’ll find us shopping this July 2024.

What is Black Friday in July?
Unlike winter’s Black Friday, which always falls the day after Thanksgiving, “Black Friday in July” refers to the cluster of sales that generally occur in the first half to middle of July, rather than on any one specific day or weekend.
Part of the reason behind these sales is that retailers want to compete with Amazon Prime Day, which generally happens mid-month (this year July 16 and 17). But a lot of it is seasonality, too. Summer is considered “almost over” after July 4 weekend (sob), so a lot of clearance sales start dropping. At the same time, the back-to-school shopping season is starting.
Are Black Friday in July Sales Worth It?
From getting summer stuff on clearance, to shopping for early back-to-school tech deals, there are plenty of good reasons to shop Black Friday in July sales. Just be savvy about what you do and don’t want, because obviously, buying something on sale and not using it is the worst. But take advantage of this lull retailers typically experience between Memorial Day and Labor Day and snap up those bargains.
