In Tommy Lloyd’s first three years at Arizona, the program rarely went beyond Texas in search of domestic high school talent.
That’s starting to change.
Arizona has made the cut for Washington D.C. combo guard Derek Dixon, who is ranked No. 60 overall prospect in the class of 2025 according to 247Sports.
Arizona is one of two non-ACC schools in Dixon’s final and the only program west of the Mississippi.
The 6-foot-3 Dixon plays for Gonzaga High School.
Dixon told 247Sports’ Dushawn London that he plans to visit Arizona Sept. 13-15. He aims to announce his decision on his birthday, Sept. 27.
“They’re a school I’ve been watching a lot the past couple of years,” Dixon told 247Sports on what attracts him to Arizona. “I really like their play style and guard play. I could see myself fitting in well there. They reached out and we developed a good relationship.”
Arizona is in the mix for no less than a half-dozen other top recruits in the class of 2025.
Arizona currently has no commitments in the class.
