There will be no repeat medal performance for Arizona great Delaney Schnell.
The former Wildcat star was eliminated from competition in the semifinals of the 10-meter platform diving event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing 15th out of 18 participants in that round. Only the top 12 advanced to Tuesday’s finals.
It was one dive that did in the 25-year-old Schnell, as her third of fifth dives scored only a 31.35 while the other four scored 52.8 or better. She finished with a score of 271.95, just over 20 points behind 12th-place qualifier Else Praasterink of the Netherlands.
Schnell was fortunate to make it out of the preliminary round after sitting near the bottom of the standings with two dives left. Her final two tries helped her climb from 25th to 17th.
The 10-meter platform was Schnell’s second Olympic event this year, as she and teammate Jessica Parrato took 6th in the synchronized diving competition last week. That duo won the silver medal in that event in Tokyo in 2021.
