Arizona’s offensive line, which at the beginning of the summer looked like one of the biggest strengths on the team, has instead turned into an area of concern midway through training camp. But now some reinforcements may be on the way.
The Wildcats have added former Nevada offensive lineman Joey Capra, a super-late pickup from the NCAA transfer portal who could help bolster a unit that saw one projected starter (Raymond Pulido) ruled out for the season at the start of camp and another (Leif Magnuson) absent from practice for the past week.
Capra, listed at 6-foot-4 and 301 pounds on Nevada’s 2023 online roster, has appeared in 25 games in his career with 13 starts the previous two seasons for the Wolf Pack after beginning his career at San Diego State. The sixth-year senior started five games at the two guard positions last year, allowing only two sacks in 212 snaps.
Pulido, the projected starting left tackle, was announced by coach Brent Brennan as unavailable for this season, and redshirt freshman Rhino Tapa’atoutai has become the favorite for that position. Magnuson started five games at right guard last year, and in his absence the UA has shuffled several players at that spot including San Jose State transfer Ryan Stewart and New Mexico transfer Shancco Matautia.
