It has been a rocky season for the Arizona Wildcats on the field. So far the season hasn’t gone as planned. That hasn’t, however, stopped the staff from recruiting and the Wildcats have managed to wrangle in a defensive commit for the 2025 class.

On Friday, 3-star linebacker Carter Jones announced his commitment to the ‘Cats.

Jones, from Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, Calif., is Arizona’s first linebacker commit of the class. He is a tackling machine, racking up double digit tackles in three games this season, with a season-high of 22. He does make plays at the line of scrimmage, however, he doesn’t have the amount of negative plays you’d like to see from a productive linebacker. He has room to add some muscle which will come once he gets to a college weight training program. He is hard-nosed, a solid tackler and has pretty good awareness in order to bring down the ball carrier.

Jones had around 17 offers and committed to Cal in December. He backed off his pledge to the Golden Bears after just under 11 months, choosing Arizona over Boston College, Cal, LSU, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, to name a few.

He is rated as a 3-star in 247’s internal and Composite rankings. Internally, 247 has him sitting as the No. 190 linebacker and the 193rd-best player in California. In the Composite, Jones ranks as the No. 1,741 player nationally, the No. 157 backer and the 145th-best player in California.

Arizona’s 2025 recruiting class is back up to 20 known commitments and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 41 class in the country as well as 6th-best in the Big 12. Recruits can begin signing on Dec. 18.
