Editor’s note: With several sports going on, Wildcat Wrap serves as a recap that focuses on the Arizona programs that we do not have the time to cover on a regular basis but are certainly worthy of recognition.

Arizona’s Josie Usereau won her first Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors after a strong showing at the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

Usereau, a transfer from Cal State Fullerton, scored an upset in singles play over Pepperdine’s No. 13 ranked Savannah Broadus 6-3, 6-3. The No. 50 ranked Usereau gave Arizona its lone point in an eventual 4-1 loss to Pepperdine on Sunday.

The day prior, Usereau teamed up with Belen Nevenhoven for a 6-3 doubles victory over Georgia Tech’s Scarlett Nicholson/Kate Sharabura. Georgia Tech’s Sharabura is currently ranked #1 in doubles nationally.

Arizona defeated the Yellow Jackets 4-0.

The Wildcats (5-1) travel to Houston this week where they’ll face Rice on Friday and No. 21 San Diego on Saturday.

Men’s tennis

Arizona men’s tennis failed to hold serve on its home court last weekend, falling to Big 12 opponent UCF 4-3 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend final.

A full recap of the match can be found here.

Arizona dropped five spots to No. 11 in this week’s ITA rankings. Arizona is the second-highest ranked Big 12 program behind No. 2 TCU.

Arizona (5-1) will return to action next weekend when it hosts Utah State, LMU and Pepperdine.

Men’s golf

No. 11 Arizona men’s golf opened the spring season with a disappointing showing at the Southwestern Invitational in Thousands Oaks, Calif..

Arizona shot 14-over par in each of the first two rounds and entered Wednesday well behind the leaders. The Wildcats were tied for 12th place in the third and final round at the time of publication.

Arizona will look to rebound when it hosts the N.I.T. on Feb. 3-4.
