Samsung is expected to unveil its first tri-folding smartphone before the end of this year, and ahead of that a new leak today purports to show us just how exactly it will fold.

This is important because it won’t do it in the same way as Huawei’s Mate XT, the first ever tri-folding smartphone, or its recently announced successor, the Mate XTs. While those devices leave a part of the folding screen exposed, the Galaxy Z TriFold doesn’t. See for yourself:

The disadvantage of Samsung’s solution is the need for a separate cover display, but the advantage is huge and obvious: the folding screen is protected while the phone is folded, there’s no direct exposure to the elements, your pocket, or the pavement should you drop the handset.

Back in August we got a glimpse at what multitasking will look like on the Galaxy Z TriFold. The device has most recently been rumored to be unveiled in October and released in November. It should sport a 6.54-inch cover screen and a 10.1-inch folding screen, while weighing 298g. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
