FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The enhanced directory connects the Downtown community to essential resources

PHOENIX (July 26, 2024)Downtown Phoenix Inc. (DPI), a community-building organization and enhanced municipal services provider, is launching an updated version of its We’re in this Together resource guide. The guide is a comprehensive overview of services, contact information, and resources for individuals experiencing homelessness and community members looking to provide immediate support.

The guide was created to streamline communication between service providers and the Downtown community and provide up-to-date information on a topic that is constantly evolving. Some new and improved features include a tree-like diagram with contact information, free meal and shower accessibility options, shelter locations, and cooling center and respite sites provided by the City of Phoenix’s Office of Heat Response and Mitigation. The logo reflects a collage of headshots of various community members, ranging from Downtown residents and employees to social service providers. Regardless of position, status, or title, this initiative is a group effort that requires participation from everyone to succeed.

We’re in This Together also highlights some of the mission-driven work Downtown Phoenix Inc. and its affiliate organizations, Phoenix Community Alliance and the Downtown Phoenix Community Development Corporation (DPCDC), are doing to make an impact. This includes contracting two full-time outreach navigators who engage and counsel individuals experiencing homelessness in hopes of connecting and transporting them to needed services and shelter. PCA’s Social and Housing Advancement Committee (SHA) is a volunteer Committee dedicated to advocating for funding and permanent solutions for social services and affordable housing to break the cycle of homelessness and build a healthier Downtown. The DPCDC’s current mission is to advance the development and redevelopment of housing and mixed-use projects that will contribute to a more equitable and inclusive Downtown.

Initiatives like We’re in This Together, which aggregates targeted resources and encourages collaboration amongst multiple service providers, is integral to creating a well-connected, solutions-driven city, said Dr. Sheila Harris, Co-Chair of the SHA Committee. “I have heard many times from people that they do not know what to do or how to respond to our housing crisis. This tool provides everyone with an actionable way to help improve housing affordability, policy changes, and the expansion of services.”

In addition to the online guide, Downtown Phoenix Inc. will offer a more tangible asset to the public with the debut of a community resource hub at CityScape. To complement DPI’s coordinated efforts with the City of Phoenix’s Office of Homeless Solutions, the hub will serve as a touchdown space for DPI’s dehp Outreach Navigators and DTPHX Ambassadors, the City of Phoenix’s Community Assistance Program (CAP), Phoenix Union High School District’s Onward & Upward program, Valley Metro, and the Downtown Operations Unit for the City of Phoenix Police Department. The hub will allow for streamlined communication and expedited deployment between Downtown’s most critical and essential service providers and community members in need. The hub is expected to open in early fall 2024.
