As the largest economic engine in the state, the Phoenix Airport System continues to play a major role in Arizona’s economy.

The Phoenix Airport System includes Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and two general aviation airports, Phoenix Deer Valley and Phoenix Goodyear. Together, these airports serve as an engine of economic growth.

Findings from an economic impact study by the ASU W. P. Carey School of Business found that the Phoenix airports produced $44.3 billion in economic output annually and supported more than 245,000 jobs across the region that generated $14.8 billion in annual payroll.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport leads the way, generating $13.3 billion per year in direct output of aviation services and $77.9 million in daily direct economic impact. Phoenix Sky Harbor plays a critical role as an employment center for  more than 47,000 people across the Phoenix metro area. When counted as a single workforce, these jobs make the airport the largest employment site in Arizona.

Beyond the airport, PHX helps strengthen local businesses. With reliable air service, companies are able to reach customers, hire workers and connect with markets across the country and around the world.

Phoenix Sky Harbor currently offers nonstop service to more than 155 destinations. These routes provide important connectivity between Phoenix and cities across the United States and internationally. Over the past year, air service at Phoenix Sky Harbor grew with new nonstop international service between Phoenix and Taipei, Taiwan, and new domestic routes from major carriers.

The airport brings millions of visitors to the state each year, and together they spend $19.3 million per day on hotels, restaurants, attractions and many other industries across Arizona.

As Phoenix Sky Harbor continues to see its passenger numbers grow, it is investing in several major capital improvement projects to meet future passenger demand, maintain a high level of service, support sustainable growth for decades, and enhance the experience at America’s Friendliest Airport®. These projects create jobs and income for workers, while driving spending on materials and services throughout the regional economy.
